Self Catering in Asturias
A lovely restored XIX century Asturian Casona containing nine apartments in a private estate near the Villaviciosa Estuary, surrounded by gentle rolling hills. Has a large enclosed garden with thick shady vegetation, a well-preserved "hórreo" (a typical Asturian grain store on pillars) and a private swimming pool ideal for relaxing.
Each of the apartments is beautifully and uniquely furnished in rustic style with bright cheerful fabrics and adorned with works by local artists. Well equipped with all modern conveniences such as microwave, fridge, cooker and other thoughtful extras.
There are several cosy common areas including a café/bar and lounge with library and open fireplace. Also an outdoor furnished terrace.
Nearby are many charming towns and villages abundant with cultural sites as well as delightful fishing ports. Highly recommended are Tazones and Lastres. Several excellent beaches are within a short drive (Rodiles and La Griega) whilst inland are many natural areas suitable for hiking, walking and sports such as golf, horse riding, surfing, windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, fishing and rafting.
This region is especially known for the production of natural apple cider and not far from here you can visit the cider museum and sample some of the delicious produce. The owners of this property also produce their own cider which guests are invited to sample.
The nearby town of Villaviciosa offers many restaurants and bars as does the nearby fishing port of Tazones.
The geography of Asturias appears to be a geological explosion towards the sky. Above all, it is a vertical land of imposing mountains such as thePicos de Europa, where rivers flowing towards the sea have chiselled deep ravines and beautiful river valleys. And then there is more than 190 miles of irregular coastline offering a succession of about 100 beaches, protected fishing harbours and navigable estuaries.
The main tourist routes in Asturias are the roads, which cross the land from the sea through the mountains passes, each road more picturesque than the one before. Southern Asturias is separated from Castilla y Leon by the Cordillera Cantabrica mountain barrier. Eastern Asturias is known for its proximity to the sea and the mountains. In fact the stunning Picos de Europa Mountains are only 12 miles from the coast.
