Description

This historical hotel is in a wonderful location right on the beautiful plaza in Segovia. Nearby are the cathedral, many restaurants, cosy bars and lots of narrow interesting streets.

The building dates back to 1860 and the hotel, which has been open since 1991, underwent complete renovation in 2001. All bedrooms are en-suite and very comfortable; some have views of the plaza and the cathedral. The hotel also has a pleasant cafe and restaurant. Private parking is available to guests.

1. Segovia

North of Madrid over the Guadarrama Mountains lies Segovia, which predates the Romans. A city of golden buildings with red-tile roofs, its most distinguished feature is the Roman aqueduct. Visit the Disneyesque Alcazar, whose elegant towers soar above a deep gorge. It was a favourite residence of the monarch for centuries, and Isabella I was crowned queen of Castile here in 1474; the throne room, patios and royal bedroom will not disappoint. Segovia’s other masterpiece is the 16th century cathedral, the last to be built in Spain in the Gothic style. No visit is complete without lunch at Meson de Candido, Know for its roast suckling pig and roast lamb specialities. The restaurant offers a direct view onto the aqueduct. Northeast of the city ant worth a detour is Pedraza de la Sierra, one of the most pristine medieval town in Castile.
