This lovely posada which was built during the eighteenth century is situated in heart of the historic quarter of Cuenca. The building retains its past monastic characteristics for it was the San Jose Choir School which echoed to the voices of boys rehearsing masses to be sung in the nearby cathedral.
Antonio and Jennifer re-opened the Posada in 1983, since when, with sensitivity, they are restoring and refurbishing it, complementing its past architectural character with contemporary standards of hotel comfort so that guests are offered friendly hospitality and local culture throughout their stay. Visitors will be charmed by this unique Posada and appreciate the harmony of decoration and its superb situation overlooking the Huecar River Gorge. Breathtaking views can be enjoyed when taking deliciously home-cooked evening meals or continental-style buffet breakfasts.
The remarkable position of the hotel offers a dramatic panorama of sunlight, shadows and breathtaking scenery. All is tranquillity and it is little wonder that this intriguing, old quarter of Cuenca was designated a World Heritage Site in 1996.

A two-hour drive southeast from Madrid, Cuenca stands on a steepsided spur that drops precipitously on either side to the gorges of the Jucar and Huecar rivers. Around the Moorish town’s narrow streets grew the Gothic and Renaissance city whose monuments, including a treasure-filled cathedral, were built with the profits of wool and textile trade.
Cuenca is Spain’s eighth UNESCO heritage site. The heart of town is the cafelined, arcaded square of Plaza Mayor, and Cuencas most amazing feature is the 14 century, cliff-hanging “casas colgadas”, hanging houses, that cling to the edge of a deep gorge. One has been converted to the excellent Museum of Abstract Art which displays works of contemporary Spanish artists such as Antoni Tapies and Eduardo Chillida; more ancient works-from prehistory to the 17th century are in the Archaeological Museum. Leave time for excursions to Belmonte castle, the Romanesque church at Arcas and the Roman amphitheatre at Segobriga.
