This lovely 18th century village manorhouse is located in the small plaza next to the 16th century church of St. Servando & St. Germain, and has been designated a listed building of National Historic interest. The house has been fully restored maintaining the original structure of the Baroque period, as can be witnessed in the timber beams and the coat of arms on the front of the house. The decor is understated and elegant with mainly neutral colours that contrast with the slate flooring and stretches of bare stone on some of the walls. The sitting room, with a fireplace, has a large window that opens out onto a pleasant patio with a marble fountain surrounded by plants and flowers. The bedrooms are all spacious and very comfortable, the only sound being the occasional chime of the church bells. Two “special” rooms are available which are larger and have a lounge area. One also has an outdoor terrace. There is an elevator (lift) for guests convenience too.

Breakfasts are plentiful and include local delicacies such as locally-made jams: lemon, apple with rum and raisins, chestnuts and mandarins. The owner, Luis, is a charming character who delights in ensuring his guests are well taken care of.

Additional information

Arnedillo is a taste of Spain off-the-beaten-path and is the perfect escape for a couple of days.

The Spanish were first attracted to Arnedillo when they discovered that the River Cidacos which flows through the town, is at a constant temperature of 36 degrees and has special healing qualities due to its rich content of mineral; sodium, siliceous chloride, sulphates, etc.. A spa was opened soon after and is still, after several centuries, operating today.

Day visitors are welcome and can enjoy relaxing in the special pools or can avail of a multitude of affordable treatments. It is especially recommended therapeutically for arthritis and inflamatory ailments, recovery from locomotory aparatus operations, gout and rheumatism. Those who are game can join in with the locals who, instead of going to the spa, prefer to relax in specially dug “pozas” in the river itself.

Arnedillo town is quite dramatically situated in a gorge, where colonies of Leonard vultures fly high above. Alongside the river there is a old railway line which has been converted into a scenic walking trail, which passes by vineyards, olive groves and typical Riojan villages. The variety of plants which fill the hills and gullies around Arnedillo with aromas, is quite remakable. A local tradition links these plants and bushes with ancient religious acts.
The town also has a very nice outdoor swimming pool complex, near to the river and the spa. There are several good, traditional restaurants and bars in the town.

Not far from Arnedillo is Enciso which is a fascinating place famous for the dinosaur trails and footprints that were discovered here. Well worth visiting.
