The Trasmiera coast, which extends from the bays of Santander to Santoña, is characterised above all for its beauty and variety. This stretch of the Cantabrian coast is a continual alternation of cliffs, important marshlands and magnificent beaches, the latter being some of the best in the region.
The first beach on the Trasmiera coast is the large sandy area of the Somo-Loredo headland, more than 4 km of beach and dunes with different points of access, from the villages of Somo and Loredo.
Between Laredo and the Ajo cape, the coast becomes wilder; with high cliffs such as those of Cape Quintres, although small and very beautiful beaches are not lacking in this area, such as those of Langre and Galizano, or those of Antuerta and Cuberris in Ajo.
On the other side of the pretty Venera estuary, mouth of the River Campiazo, the village of Isla and its beaches of La Arena, Arnadal, El Sable and La Cava are found.
Further on we come to Noja, with its three expansive beaches; Ris, Trengandín and Helgueras, which are close to the important marshlands of Joyel and Victoria, that together with the marshlands of Santoña form an outstanding nature reserve. Finally, the fishing town of Santoña has two beaches: the Berria, wide and opening out onto the Cantabrico Sea, and the San Martín beach, smaller and sheltered and somewhat more urban.
