Parador de Cordoba - Located above the ruins of the small summer palace of Abderraman I, on a hill surrounded by vegetation at the foot of the Cordoba mountain range, the Parador Cordoba affords guests an exceptional panoramic view of the legendary Andalusian city of the caliphs.

The Parador brims with freshness in the summer months, as it enjoys a temperature 4ºC lower than in the city of Cordoba. That feeling of well-being is enhanced by the swimming pool and the surrounding private grounds which feature a garden area known as Los Naranjos (The Orange Trees), where the first palm trees planted in Europe are found.

The interior of the Parador de Cordoba is both elegant and luminous, with large living rooms and spacious bedrooms. The Parador´s dining room offers local specialities including ''salmorejo cordobes'' (chilled vegetable soup), ''gazpacho blanco de almendras'' (chilled almond soup) and steak in green sauce.

Cordoba (population 300,000), one of Andalusia's eight provincial capitals, stands on the banks of the River Guadalquivir northeast of Seville.

The city was founded around 169 B.C. by the Roman praetor Claudius Marcelus and was the birthplace of Seneca. The city boomed under the Arabs and on the arrival of the Caliphate, became the most civilised and sophisticated city in 10th-century Europe.

During this century Cordoba had nearly 1,000 mosques, 600 public baths and street lighting (700 years before either London or Paris). Cordoba´s sophistication attracted numerous intellectuals, scholars, poets, doctors and philosophers. Later the city was conquered by the Christians and this equally important legacy can still be seen today.
