The impressive medieval Galician tower, today part of the Parador de Vilalba, dominates the urban and rural landscape of this town in Lugo. Vilalba was the capital of this fertile region known as Terra Cha and the tower was where the Counts of Vilalba lived.

The tower section of the Parador offers a cosy, peaceful ambience with a true medieval flavour.  The 6 bedrooms located in the tower and the Salon de los Andrade share this style and feature mural paintings and coats of arms.

Adjacent to the tower is a modern annex constructed in stone and in the style of a typical Galician palace.  Here there are 42 bedrooms, a bar, lounge areas and a restaurant. Among the gastronomic specialties of the region available here are lacon con grelos (cured pork with turnip greens), empanada de raxo (pork and potato pie), beef brochettes and the famous capon vilalbes (a local chicken dish) especially popular at Christmas.
