DEPARTURE DAYS & TIMES
This excursion can be arranged on any day from Monday to Saturday except public holidays. Depart from Seville at 09:30 in the morning and arrive back at between 17:30 and 18:00.
Prices are based on the number of people travelling and are inclusive of English speaking chauffeur/guide, transportation, food and drink.
On this excursion, you will be met at your hotel by our friendly English speaking chauffeur/guide and proceed to Jerez de la Frontera which is about 85 kilometres (53 miles) south of Seville. Jerez is a beautiful town steeped in history and it is also the centre for the production of sherry style wines - there are wineries dotted all over this charming place.
Approaching Jerez de la Frontera, you will travel by some of the vineyards to the north before proceeding to one of the larger `bodegas´ (wineries) where you will be met by our expert local guide. During your visit to the winery you will be taken around what are spectacular buildings with their rows and rows of stacked sherry `butts´ (casks). These buildings are often compared to cathedrals and it is certainly true that they give the impression of being sanctified places.
After an in-depth tour including a complete explanation of the sherry-making process, there will be a tutored tasting of the different styles of wine, including high end wines not normally included in tastings. You will also learn how sherry vinegar and Jerez brandy are made and have the chance to sample some too. If you are more of a brandy fan please let us know as we can alter the tour accordingly.
After this first visit you will be taken to a small family-run `bodega´ (winery) where you will have the chance to taste some exceptionally fine wines known only to a select few connoisseurs. Following this you will enjoy lunch at one of the best restaurants in Jerez de la Frontera where a specially prepared meal consisting of excellent local dishes accompanied by fine sherry wines will be served. After this tour, we are sure that you will agree with most of the world's top wine critics who believe that sherry is the most underrated fine wine in the world.
There will be some free time in Jerez de la Frontera before being driven back to your hotel in Seville.
