Colourful hamlets, picturesque coastal villages and elegant cities all vie for the visitor's attention against a backdrop of natural scenery of unrivalled raw beauty. And of course one must not forget the majestic Picos de Europa National Park.
Day ONE
Arrive in the pretty coastal town of Cudillero just west of Gijon, where you spend the night in the accommodation of your choice.
Day TWO
Today explore Cudillero and nearby Luarca, another traditional and charming fishing village sheltered by a spectacular headland. Wander the impressive array of small cafes and seafood restaurants which enjoying the salty sea air. Accommodation of your choice in Cudillero.
Day THREE
Visit the port of Gijon, Asturias’ largest city with several lovely beaches. One of its most remarkable buildings is the 18th century Palacio de Revillagigedo. There you will find Roman spas and the Museo de la Gaita bagpipe museum. You may wish, if you have time, to visit Villaviciosa a delightful resort town that is considered the region's cider capital. Continue to charming Oviedo and the accommodation of your choice.
Day FOUR
Spend the day in the university city of Oviedo, the capital of Asturias. While there don't miss out on seeing the wonderful Gothic Cathedral, the San Tirso Church and Oviedo's Archaeology Museum. Just to the north are two of the region's most magnificent Pre-Romanesque churches: Santa Maria del Naranco and San Miguel de Lillo. Oviedo also has a terrific variety of shops, bars and restaurants. Day FIVE
Depart Oviedo for Cangas de Onis (Cangas), one of the main gateways to the Picos de Europa mountains. Cangas has an impressive Roman bridge, a dolmen and the 15th century Chapel of Santa Cruz. On the way visit Nava and the Cider Museum: Infiesto, famous for the Virgen de la Cueva and the caves and Arriondas, with its spectacular panoramic views from the Mirador del Fito. Once in the Picos de Europa mountains you arrive in Covadonga with its Neo-Romanesque basilica. Afterwards enjoy a splendid, mountainous scenic drive to the Covadonga lakes. Later return to Cangas where we suggest trying a delicious, traditional fava bean stew `fabada´. Accommodation of your choice in Cangas.
Day SIX
An unforgettable day visiting the Picos de Europa mountains, Europe’s largest national park, which is still home to some of Europe´s last remaining wild brown bears. Rugged mountains and green pastures will be the order of the day. Heading into Cantabria one can take the cable car into the Picos Mountains at Fuente De. Food lovers mustn´t miss a chance to sample the local Cabrales, a delicious creamy blue cheese. Accommodation of your choice in Cangas.
Day SEVEN
Return to your point of departure.
