This former kingdom, which once ruled the Mediterranean, is currently of great interest and marked by contrasts and magnificent countryside. It is a region rich in folklore and is home to the highest peaks on the Iberian peninsula, surrounded by Spain’s best ski resorts.
Day ONE
Arrive in Zaragoza. Accommodation of your choice in the city.
Day TWO
Full day in Zaragoza. Once capital of the Taifa in the 11th Century, still preserves superb examples of the mudejar art, such as the Castle-Palace of Aljaferia, the Cathedral of San Salvador or La Seo and the Churches of; San Pablo, La Magdalena, San Miguel and San Gil. Also worth visiting, although not of mudejar style is the impressive Basilica de El Pilar (open daily from 5.45am-9.30pm), an impressive 17th-century church like no other in Spain. Inside there is much to admire including eleven finely tiled cupolas. Zaragoza has a lively night scene which terrific tapas bars each featuring their own speciality of the house. Day THREE and FOUR
Travel north to the Ordesa and Monte Perdido (Lost Mountain) national park, to enjoy the natural wonders of this area. Stop en-route to visit Huesca. Founded in the 1st century BC, it was capital of Aragon until 1118. This pleasant old town and provincial capital, has a gothic Cathedral, with some Mudejar features. Opposite the Cathedral lies the town Hall, in Renaissance style.
The Ordesa and Monte Perdido park is a great example of typical Spanish Pyrenees scenery. Within the park there are four glacial canyons giving the area spectacular cliffs and chasms. In winter you can find several popular sky resorts in the area, and in the summer an abundance of hiking routes to explore. Accommodation of your choice in Bielsa.
Day FIVE
After lunch leave the Ordesa and Monte Perdido park and continue south again to Zaragoza. Accommodation of your choice in Zaragoza.
Day SIX
Day trip to the Monasterio de Piedra (Stone Monastery) in Nevalos which stands in a beautiful park full of grottoes and waterfalls. This monastery was built in 1195, and although it was rebuilt in the 19th century some of the original buildings still survive.

Day THREE, FOUR and FIVE

On day 5 visit the valley of Benasque, one of the most beautiful and surrounded by the highest peaks of the Pyrenees. This Pyrenean scenery in the northeast corner of Aragon provide magnificent views from its sky resorts and plenty of hiking tours. The Aneto peak, the highest in the peninsula is located here. Accommodation of your choice in Bielsa.
Day SIX
After lunch leave the Ordesa and Monte Perdido park and continue west to Jaca. Accommodation of your choice in Jaca.
Day SEVEN
Full day to relax and enjoy Jaca, an ancient city (2nd century AD) which has an 11th century cathedral, one of Spain’s oldest, containing an interesting Diocesan Museum. Also worth seeing here is the 16th century pentagonal Citadel, a fort on the edge of the town. Accommodation of your choice in Jaca.
Day EIGHT
Full day spent exploring the area west and south west of Jaca including the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña which has two interesting churches inside dating from the 10th and 13th centuries. The l3th church has an especially interesting main pantheon, considered the most complete Romanesque pantheon in Spain, but the cloister is even more so: it is covered by a vault hewn out of the rock and its capitals depict different religious subjects. Visit also Loarre, the most important Romanesque fortress in Spain, which became a monastery at the end of the llth century. Accommodation of your choice in Jaca
Day NINE
Today return to Zaragoza travelling first west to visit Javier, Sos del Rey Católico and Pamplona before taking the motorway for a short 1h 30min drive to Zaragoza. Accommodation of your choice in Zaragoza.
