Walking and Hiking in Northern Spain

Thanks to the various and numerous mountain ranges of northern Spain the traveller can enjoy different and pleasant hiking routes, mainly throughout green Spain, visiting unforgettable little villages and amazing landscapes.

Itinerary

Day ONE

Arrive in Bilbao and continue south to the province of Alava . Accommodation of your choice in Alava.

Day TWO

The Aitzkorri Sierra is a supreme space to go hiking, mountain biking or hill climbing. These activities can be organized and the landscapes are amazing. Within this area you can walk a route which goes through the Tunnel of San Adrian, a natural cave that joins the province of Alava with Guipuzcoa. The Sanctuary of Aranzazu is also nearby and is one of the most futuristic-looking Christian Temples (various Basque artists contributed to its design) in the Basque Country. Day THREE

The Sierra de Aralar, east of Vitoria, is a perfect place for hiking today. This Nature Reserve close to Navarra offers a wide range of activities and routes for hiking-lovers. Of particular interest is the Txindoki mountain, which profile changes significantly according to your point of observation. Accommodation of your choice in Alava.

Day FOUR

Valderejo. This Nature Reserve on the west side of Alava, is a high, spacious valley enclosed by steep hillsides ending in rocky cliffs. An ideal place for trekking and hill-walking. One particular place not to be missed is the Delica Canyon, a 300-metre viewpoint at the source of river Nervion. Later today travel to Cantabria. Accommodation of your choice in Cantabria.

Day FIVE and SIX

The River Ebro Natural Park, located in Cantabria is another amazing place to go hiking. Close to the winter sky resort of Alto Campoo, during the summer, hiking itineraries and trips to the Embalse del Ebro (the Ebro dam) can easily be enjoyed. Accommodation of your choice in Cantabria.

Day SEVEN

Return to your point of departure.
