HIGHLIGHTS: Leon is a city of incomparable beauty, closely linked to the Camino de Santiago (the Way of Saint James, a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela). It offers a variety of interesting sights, including the Santa Maria Cathedral with it´s remarkable stained glass windows, San Isidoro Basilica and the Hostal de San Marcos itself, now the Parador at which you will stay. The palace of the Guzman family, Botines House designed by Antoni Gaudi, San Marcelo Church, Santa Ana Church, the Main Square (Plaza Mayor), and Roman walls are just a sample of the important sights to be discovered in Leon.
HIGHLIGHTS: An important milestone along the Camino de Santiago, and the last part of the route in the province of Leon, Villafranca was declared a site of historic and artistic interest in 1965. Among its many monuments, the Santiago and La Colegiata churches are of special note, as are San Francisco and La Anunciada Convents.
HIGHLIGHTS: Pontevedra offers an extremely beautiful old quarter. Highlights include Cinco Ruas Square, Santa Maria a Mayor Basilica, Do Peirao Square, Do Burgo Bridge, De Pedreia Square, and more. We recommend visiting nearby towns such as O Grove, San Xenso and la Toja, with their ancient horreos (raised granaries) and their natural mineral spas which can be enjoyed as a day visitor.
HIGHLIGHTS: In Cambados you can explore Fefinanes pazo (Galician country house) and San Benito Church, or the ruins of Santa Marina. In this land of wines, vineyards with the Albarino denominacion de origen are of special interest to visitors. We also recommend local towns such as O Grove, San Xenso, la Toja and Combarro which, in addition, to their famous spas are also a fish and seafood lover´s paradise.
HIGHLIGHTS: Santiago is a World Heritage City, and offers travellers any number of sites to visit: Obradoiro Square with its monumental cathedral, the university’s square, the ruas along which you can stroll and experience the life of the city’s inhabitants, palaces and churches, and museums such as the cathedral museum, Museum of the Galician People, or the Galician Center for Contemporary Art. You cannot help but be seduced by this city and the Parador hotel here is considered one of the finest hotels in the world. In fact, it is said that it was one of the first hotels in the world.
