Ken’s journey in life and travel began in Lagos, Nigeria, where he was born, before moving to Ireland for his education. This early cross-cultural experience sparked a curiosity about the world that has shaped his career in travel ever since. Since 1989, Ken has been immersed in the travel industry, holding senior roles at some of the most respected travel companies, including Insight Vacations in Sydney, TNT Vacations in Boston, and the Abbey Travel Group in both the UK and the USA. In 1999, his journey brought him to the Basque Country, where he founded Totally Spain in 2000.

Ken’s passion for Spain began in the early 1990s when he met Belen, now his wife and business partner. She introduced him to her native Basque Country, igniting what would become a lifelong love for “the real Spain.”

"From the very first visit in 1993, I was captivated. The Basque Country had this vibrancy and depth I hadn’t encountered before. I knew straight away that I wanted to live and work here. Whether it was the excitement of the Pamplona fiestas, the charm of San Sebastian’s old quarter, or hiking the breathtaking Cares Gorge in the Picos de Europa, I was hooked. Making that dream a reality took six years, but it was worth every moment of planning."

Ken has traveled extensively throughout Spain and Portugal, exploring every corner many times over. He founded Totally Spain in Vitoria, the capital of the Basque Country, and ran the company there for five years before relocating to the stunning Cantabrian coast near Santander in 2005. For Ken, being based in Spain is non-negotiable:

From the beginning, Ken’s vision for Totally Spain was clear: to create a highly personalized, authentic travel service for clients who value expert knowledge, attention to detail, and the reassurance of booking with a reliable, local company.

Outside of work, Ken is a proud dad to twin girls and loves spending time with his family. A lover of the outdoors, he finds inspiration in beautiful gardens and enjoys gardening himself. He’s also a keen singer and a passionate (if amateur!) chef who relishes hosting family and friends at home.

Belen Encinas - Director

Belen, the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Totally Spain, was born and raised in the Basque Country, a region she knows and loves deeply. Her passion for exploration has taken her across Europe, the United States, and parts of Asia, but her heart always draws her back to Spain and its hidden charms.

A graduate of Deusto University in Bilbao with a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Belen spent over seven years living and working overseas in Britain and the United States. This period broadened her horizons, perfected her English, and laid the foundation for her ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

One of Belen’s proudest career achievements was serving as assistant to the CEO of Accion International in Massachusetts, the world’s leading micro-lending organization, where she supported efforts to fight poverty in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa. This role reflected her innate dedication to helping others—a quality she brings to every trip she designs.

A true master of crafting bespoke travel experiences, Belen has an almost photographic memory for the places she has visited and their unique details. This, combined with years of experience, allows her to create itineraries that are both creative and impeccably practical. Her conscientious approach ensures that every detail is thoughtfully considered, from the pace of travel to accommodations, activities, and dining options.

Belen’s years of expertise mean she sometimes takes a firm stance when she knows a client’s request may not work as intended. This isn’t stubbornness but rather a genuine desire to deliver the best possible experience. She believes in balancing client preferences with her deep understanding of what will make a trip truly memorable and seamless. You only need to look at Totally Spain’s past client reviews to see the level of care and attention she brings to her work.

Her love for Spain began early, as she traveled extensively throughout the country with her adventurous parents and large extended family. These experiences instilled in her not just a love of travel but a deep knowledge of Spain’s diverse regions, cultures, and cuisines. Belen delights in sharing this knowledge, always emphasizing that Spain’s magic goes far beyond sun, sea, and sand.

As a dedicated mother to twin girls, Belen loves introducing them to the beauty of Spain and Portugal, sharing her passion for travel and exploration. Outside of work, she’s active in various sports, deeply involved in her local community, and relishes connecting with the people and places around her.

Ana Duran

Ana, a proud native of Santander, the stunning capital of Cantabria, joined Totally Spain in 2006 after completing her studies in tourism.

As a young adult, Ana broadened her horizons by living and working overseas in Northern Ireland, an experience that enriched her perspective and honed her language skills. In addition to her native Spanish, she speaks fluent English and French, making her a valuable asset to our team and clients alike.

Ana is also a Certified Official Tour Guide for the magnificent Cabárceno Natural Park, one of Spain’s most important wildlife parks. Her expertise and passion for the park reflect her deep love for Cantabria’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

As one of Totally Spain’s Specialist Reservations Agents, Ana brings her extensive travel experience across Spain to every itinerary she helps create. Despite her travels, her heart remains in Cantabria, a region she believes is unparalleled in its charm and allure.

Outside of work, Ana is the proud mother of two wonderful children and enjoys sharing her love for Cantabria with them, nurturing the same appreciation for the region’s rich culture and landscapes that defines her professional life.

Olaia Elorriaga

Olaia has been an integral part of Totally Spain for almost 20 years, having joined the company in 2005 shortly after its relocation to Cantabria. As one of our senior reservations agents, she brings a wealth of experience and speaks Spanish, Basque, and English fluently, making her an invaluable member of our team.

Originally from Bilbao in the Basque Country, Olaia completed her studies in tourism in Cantabria, where she now happily resides. Known for her talent in crafting imaginative itineraries, she has a knack for securing excellent value for her clients. Her extensive list of satisfied customers speaks volumes, as highlighted on our testimonial page.

When it comes to her favorite places, Olaia is drawn to the vibrant energy of Barcelona, particularly its fantastic shopping scene. However, her heart belongs to the cuisine of Northern Spain, which she considers unmatched in quality and flavor.

Adolfo in Toledo

Adolfo is one of our most experienced and sought-after guides in the magnificent city of Toledo. A favourite among past clients, Adolfo’s tours are praised for the depth, passion, and insight he brings to uncovering the wonders of this enchanting city.

A graduate of the School of Tourism with a degree in Art History, Adolfo became a licensed official guide for Toledo in 2007. He describes his mission as “transmitting the flavors, experiences, and sensations evoked by one of the most captivating cities in Spain.” For Adolfo, there was no better place to build his career than in Toledo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site brimming with history and monumental beauty.

Adolfo’s vast professional experience spans diverse sectors of tourism and the arts, including coordinating an exhibition at Madrid’s renowned Reina Sofia Museum. Antonio in Granada

Antonio is one of our long term expert Granada guides.  One of the best in the city in our opinion and someone who always puts the needs of his client first.

Born and raised in Granada, Antonio initially worked in the hotel industry for a leading hotel chain but after a few years he found that his real passion was to be outdoors, meeting people and showing them around his hometown.  He became an Official Granada Tour Guide in 2000.

He loves to take people to the special corners of the city that are personal to him, places that - as a child - were his playground.  He’ll show you places where he played sports with his gypsy friends: recount  tales of the old women who sold roasted chestnuts and potatoes  where now there are luxury restaurants: and he’ll take you around the Alhambra of his childhood, when kids could easily find a way in to play at being medieval knights and princesses.

Apart from holding an official guides licence for Asturias she is also a certified guide for the region of Castilla y Leon.  For Elena, the world of tourism, guiding and languages is her passion. She speaks several languages including English and German and holds qualifications issued by the Association of Translators Interpreters of Niedersachsen, Germany, and also draws experience from her time spent at Princeton University, NJ, USA.

Esther in Madrid

She was born and raised in Madrid where she obtained a Tourism Management degree and undertook various university courses in Art and History.  She has been a professionally licensed tour guide since the 90’s and has lead tours not only in her native Madrid but also around Spain and various parts of Europe.

Gema in Cordoba

Gema is a proud native of Córdoba and the third generation in her family to embrace the profession of tour guiding. Gema holds a degree in Translation from the University of Berlin, where she spent a significant portion of her life. Her time in Berlin, along with her love of travel, has given her a unique perspective and an insatiable curiosity about other cultures, people, and even herself.

Jaime in Seville

Jaime was born in Seville though his family origins are from Asturias in Northern Spain.  As a young boy in Seville he was fascinated with old churches and archaeological remains and when not at school he could be found in the Barrio Santa Cruz exploring the Alcazar or a small chapel within the cathedral.  The history of Seville has been his passion now for more than 35 years and is, no doubt, what inspired him to pursue and obtain a degree in architectural draftsmanship and in tourism.

He has a special love of archaeology in which he worked in the past as a draftsman on excavations and medieval architecture. He also has a keen interest in botany, plants and their historical uses and anecdotes.  Very useful in a city such as Seville where there is tree for every two inhabitants.

Jaime’s greatest virtue perhaps is his adaptability and his empathy with the people he guides. He has a unique ability to match his tours to whatever will suit the client best.  He has been working mostly with VIP tourism over the past 20 years and he is,  as he himself puts it, “as comfortable in the company of a government minister as I am with a farmer from Connecticut”.

Jamal in Tangier

Born in Barcelona , Oriol comes a Catalan family with a long entrepreneurial tradition. His Great Grandfather was responsible for the construction of Casa Calvet one of the first apartment buildings designed by Antoni Gaudi. Oriol learned about this and many of the architectural anecdotes and legends of Barcelona city from his father.

Oriol has been around long enough to have experienced the tremendous changes in Barcelona & Catalonia over the past 30 years and especially the radical renovation of Barcelona city in the pre and post Olympic years.

Running a French-Catalan restaurant in Barcelona gave Oriol a great understanding of the delicacies of the Catalan Cuisine. And he follows the Catalan tradition of loving his country through nature. Hiking in the mountains of Catalonia he learned about heritage and history.

His passion for traditional architecture led him into restoration and the restoration of several old stone houses in small towns in Catalonia as well as restoring a 200 year old wine cellar.

Oriol has a degree in travel management. He is an official guide for the Catalan region and his specialities are Modernism and Gaudi Architecture. He is also extremely knowledgeable about Barcelona´s Jewish heritage and the history of the Jews in Barcelona.
