Description and location

This charming 3 star Parador is located in the San Francisco Monastery, just outside the historic Riojan town of Santo Domingo de la Calzada where you also find another 4 star Parador hotel.   The monastery was rebuilt in 1595 by Juan de Herrera and is split into three sections: church, workshop/museum and hotel

The decoration inside features red tones and blue-grays in the bedrooms, oil paintings with religious themes and works by modern graphic artists.  All rooms feature a TV, a minibar and a private bathroom.

Being located on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, this Parador is ideal for those wanting to get somewhat off-the-beaten path.

Santo Domingo de la Calzada town is on banks of the Oja River on a vast plain. The town's founding is entirely linked to the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela known as the French Route. The town’s main attractions include the cathedral and the Plaza de Espana. 

Tourist can enjoy activities such as winery visits, golf, hiking and, in winter, the Valdezcaray ski resort which is 13kms away.  Also, savoring the region’s delicious cuisine is a must as is visiting towns such as Haro and the incredible Yuso and Suso monasteries.
