Parador de Corias

Description and location

The fabulous Parador de Corias is located in the lovely Northern Spanish Asturian town of Cangas del Narcea. 

It is set in a stunning monastery and in addition to being awarded the best non urban hotel in Spain by Condé Nast Traveller in 2014, it is also a registered National Monument and frequently referred to as the Asturian `El Escorial´.

Those who love the outdoors will appreciate the surrounding mountain landscape and Narcea River, views of which can be enjoyed from the guest rooms. The basement holds a charming museum where one can see archaeological remains of the old early 11th century building.The Tuscan-style church with its wide spaces and baroque altarpiece is also worth seeing.

In the mountains surrounding the Parador are small vineyards growing grapes of Mencia, Albarin, Carrasquin and Verdejo Tinto used in the production of local wines that are slowly gaining a name for themselves.

This Parador sets the standard for tourism and gastronomy in an area of great natural beauty, surrounded by magical forests and rural landscapes which display different colors for each season of the year.

Next to the Parador is a Roman bridge, plenty of trails to picturesque spots such as the Fuentes Nature Reserve, Muniellos Reserve or El Cuetu d’ Arbas Reserve, where bears leave their tracks on the beautiful green mantle of vegetation.

The charming town of Cangas de Narcea,  just two kilometers from the Parador, is dotted with interesting churches, traditional palaces and historic mansions.  Sights include the collegiate church of Santa María Magdalena, Omaña Palace, Toreno Palace and Virgen del Acebo Chapel.
