The Parador de Santo Estevo is housed in the emblematic Santo Estevo de Rivas de Sil monastery, in Nogueira de Ramuin (Ourense). The building was declared a monument of historical and artistic significance in 1923.
It is located in a region popularly known as the birthplace of the 'afiladores y paraguerios' (knife sharpeners and umbrella makers) and is one of the towns in Ourense in which the topography and the confluence of the rivers Mino and Sil create spectacular natural areas. The monastery is one of Galicia's oldest, founded in the 6th century. The original construction is Romanesque, although it does feature Gothic elements too. The 18th century baroque façade is magnificent as is the monumental staircase. Also beautifully preserved are the three cloisters: De la porteria, De la Cocina and De los Obispos. The latter is the only cloister in Galicia, together with the cathedral in Tui, which original construction has been preserved intact. The gardens feature a large variety of local plants.
All of the Parador de Santo Estevo´s bedrooms are unique with some having magnificent views over the River Sil.
The Parador has a fine restaurant with a patio, featuring regional dishes including a wide selection of recipes based on fresh fish from the River Sil. After dining guests enjoy enjoy a drink in the bar situated in the lovely Porteria cloister.
