Belen an [sic] her team for putting together a wonderful trip for us to Portugal. Everything was terrific – the accommodations in Lisbon, Coimbra and Porto were spacious and comfortable. All of the guides, Elsa, Joao, Pedro, Gustavo, and Celia were an absolute delight to be with. They were all very knowledgeable and informative while not being boring. They all had great senses of humor and were a joy to be around.

It’s hard to say what was our favorite part of the trip. The Penha Palace in Sintra, the view from the cliffs near Azenhas do Mar, the library in Coimbra, the Templar castle and aqueduct in Tomar. . . were all great. The Maos winery in the Douro Valley was definitely a high point of the trip; Raphael (the owner) was incredibly hospitable to us, allowing us to sample his wines while providing us with a delicious lunch (like a 10-course meal)! I would highly recommend that you send all your visitors to the valley to his winery. I am now a big fan of Tawny Ports and white wine from the Vin Verde region. And don’t get me started with Pumpkin Jam! We liked it so much that after the tasting in Lisbon, we had Pedro take us to a store where we could buy a jar! And I have to thank Gustavo for introducing me to the White Port and Tonic (it was great and will be a nice summertime drink to share with friends).

Belen and her team did a great job and were incredibly helpful in helping me plan this trip (especially when my email would let me send anything once I got to Europe. . .all my messages that were held in the Outbox finally left once I got back to the US. I have no idea why?) I am a fan of Totally Spain and everyone who works there and will happily recommend the company to any of my friends who plan trips to Spain and/or Portugal in the future. One of these days I want to travel to Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, & Seville (& Majorca to see Raffa). . You can be sure that I will be calling them at that time for assistance!

We traveled as a group of four from Alaska. Our travel partners researched several tour group options and chose Totally Spain because of their initial interactions.  Belen arranged a detailed package for us for 12 days in Andalusia region. This included lodging, personal tours, and transportation. The tour guide in each location proved to be unique and knowledgeable but also fun and enthusiastic. We have traveled to many locations around the world but Totally Spain helped make this one of our best vacations to date. Once again, Belen and her team put together an amazing vacation for us. I think the jet lag is behind us now.  We arrived home safely on Friday evening.  Josh and I just realized that exactly one week ago today we were enjoying an amazing paella at Maku Miku in Barcelona.

I wanted to thank you for all your recommendations.  It was a flawless trip -- everyone was on time, hotels (and buffets!!!!) were perfect, and I appreciated the great location to everything.
I'd say the Tapas Tour (American Amy - hah!)  and Toledo (Enrique!!) were highlights of our trip.  Conchi was fantastic as well in Barcelona.  Really enjoyed our time with her.  Private tours are the way to go. We'd do it all over again!

We've been back home a week now, and I have meant to email you every day to say, "THANK YOU!!" so very, very much for accommodating us in Spain! Our trip was absolutely wonderful, and Spain will always hold a very special place in our hearts. The trip was so very good in large part to your planning and "hosting" us. Our hotel accommodations were so lovely, and we were placed perfectly to see the sites in each city. The drivers were always on time and were so kind, in spite of our language differences. And our guides were fantastic - each one of them seemed truly happy to spend hours of their day showing us their hometowns, although I realize they have seen those same sites 100+ times! We ended up sharing a drink or tapas with every one of them by the end of our time together and parted as friends. We absolutely loved Spain, the beauty of the land/mountains and sea, the culture, the food, the people.....and we were blessed to celebrate the beginning of Semana Santa in Malaga. We are hopeful to return one day, and our girls are begging to come with us when we do.

I've just had a fun, wonderful, well-curated, and stress-free 9-day tour of Spain and that was made possible with the help of Ken and his team at Totally Spain who are very responsive, hand-on, and reliable. I'm also giving them a 5-star rating because they booked me in nice hotels that were all located at the heart of the cities and very close to the attractions I visited. The drivers were all punctual and made place to place transfers safe and worry-free. All the tour guides who accompanied me were all professional, knowledgeable, and pleasant. We recently did a 15-day trip in Northern Spain arranged by Totally Spain. It was perfect in every way! They provided us with an itinerary, made reservations at hotels and paradores, and arranged the rental car. Our goal was to visit as many caves with prehistoric paintings in the regions of Cantabria and Asturias as possible and Totally Spain helped us achieve this. They made reservations at the cave sites and arranged excellent guides. In addition, they provided us with helpful background information, maps and even restaurant recommendations at the places we visited. We could not have done such an interesting, substantial trip without their guidance and always available support. We hope to return to Spain and would definitely engage the services of Ken Baldwin and the Totally Spain team again!

We’re on the train from Grenada to Madrid. I just wanted to thank you for a magical two weeks in Spain. It’s remarkable how quickly you put the itinerary together for us when I called you in early September. I really appreciate taking into account our particular interests in photography and painting/ceramics and creating a custom itinerary that really catered to us. I was never bored or disinterested, even for 5 minutes. Every day was incredibly “productive” photographically and I could not have planned this better myself (if I had all the time in the world).

In particular, I’d like to thank the following vendors that you used:

Tour Guides: Every tour guide was a wonderful human being first and incredibly knowledgeable of their home city. 

Antonio in Caceres was a third generation son of Caceres and his grandfather was an official photographer of Caceres.  Antonio knew exactly where to take me for the views that I wanted and his love of history for his home city was so obvious. I would never have been able to get my shot of the Caceres skyline without his expert knowledge of the viewpoints and geography of the surrounding hills.

Adriana in Seville was a force of nature. I’ve never met anyone who works this hard. I have two memories of her that I won’t forget. One was when we asked to be taken to an artists colony so we could see some artisans at work. She took us there and then as we walked down the road, she tried to open every door (!!) to see if it was unlocked. We eventually found an unlocked door and met a German metal worker who allowed me to photograph him teaching his students how to melt and shape iron! Another memory is Adriana taking me to a processional during All Saints’ Day. I could not have done either of these without her. We will be back in Seville for sure and when we do, I’d like to work with her again.

David was born and raised in Cordoba and this became very clear with his incredible grasp of history. We invited him to join us for lunch just so we could hear him talk while we ate. Also a remarkably pleasant man and very easy to spend the whole day. Unlike Adriana, he was very laid back and walked slowly, and we badly needed this slower pace after (literally) running all over Seville. 

Maria Jose in Grenada was a wonderful person. We really enjoyed talking with her and my wife quickly bonded with Maria. She walked 8 miles each day as we traversed the old Jewish and Muslim quarters (steep hills!) and then used her connections at the Alhambra to help us cut in front of lines. At one point, she even found a worker who was restoring art work and got him to let me in behind a cordoned off section so that I could photograph the art work on the walls closer. Talk about exclusive access!  A lot of restaurants were closed this weekend and she was very helpful in telling us exactly where to go and the places to avoid. Maria showed up early each day and really made it easy to find ways to avoid the crowds and get the shots I wanted. Highly recommend her.

Drivers: All of our drivers were wonderful. They came with clean cars, equipped with water and were incredibly patient with us.

Almudena never tracked time and she drove us anywhere we wanted. She was very helpful in tracking down the artisans in Trujillo and in fact, one of the artists (Angel Melo) was a family friend of hers so I got extra time to take photos there.

Fran  had a great personality! His English wasn’t the best but we never had any trouble understanding him! He even found photos in tour guides that he liked and drove me around until we found those same view points. Really loved him as our driver.

Rafa was wonderful in Grenada. An utter gentleman, he dragged our suitcases for us, drove us around, even offered to wait while we ate dinner. He really knew the Apujarras region and acted as both an impromptu tour guide and a driver. He was always punctual and I could count on him to be in the lobby 15 minutes before our pickup time.

Other Vendors:

Flamenco — This was FANTASTIC! I thought we would be just watching some warm up routine. Instead, we got 45 minutes of custom performance. They even asked us what we wanted to see and whether we wanted to see performances solo or in groups.  I had the whole room to myself and was able to act as a director and photographer. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness and kindness of everyone here.

Hammam Aire Ancient Baths — A real treat given how tired we were by the time we got there. Really enjoyed the place.

Barro Azul - My wife really loved this and regretted that she didn’t have more time here. The owner even dropped off the finished pieces at our hotel two days later. Really wonderful place.

All the hotels you selected were perfect. I will never forget our room at the Parador in Caceres and we enjoyed every hotel that we stayed at. In hindsight, I think the itinerary was a bit too aggressive for Annika (next time she’d like some time to work with artists in classes (like the ceramics class) so she doesn’t feel obligated to follow me around. I averaged 11 kilometers of walking every day (about 160 km of walking during the entire trip). This was exhausting but I loved every minute of it as I was photographically very productive. 

Finally, none of this would have happened without the wonderful itinerary you put together for us. The written itinerary was detailed and I knew exactly where to go and when. Spain is one of my favorite countries and I know I will be back.

Hello Belen,

We are back home after a fantastic Totally Spain vacation, thanks to you!

Art and I would like to express our sincere gratitude for the amazing tours and comfortable transports you arranged for us for 39 days. It was a perfect combination of travel, activities, sightseeing, education, and rest.

You provided us with safe drivers and knowledgeable, personable, tour guides. Adriana ( Sevilla), Cristina (Girona), and Olga (Costa Brava) were outstanding and their passion and love for what they do are evident in the way they conducted the tours. It was very helpful to have Esther (San Sebastián) guide us through the pintxos crawl otherwise we would not have known what to do to enjoy local Spanish cuisine.

In their own special way, all the guides made ruins, walls, towers, streets, districts, palaces, plaza mayors, cathedrals, monuments, aqueducts, museums, local shops, rivers and parks, all alive and endearing.
You could not have chosen better lodgings than what we had; all centrally located, clean, comfortable, with great views, especially the paradores in Cadiz and Costa Brava, and the hotel in Salamanca. They were conveniently located to good restaurants, parks, shops and plazas which also made daily walking a pleasure.

We learned how to ride the trains, got comfortable with taxis and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities to walk thru towns, cities, parks, winding roads and uphill trails. The fitness walk in Costa Brava with Olga and the breath -taking El Caminito del Rey are unforgettable.

The suggestions on dining choices were much appreciated. It helped us savor the “real” Spain especially cochinillo, jamon Iberico, tapas and pintxos, doused with a good glass of sherry, rioja, tinto verano, local beer, wine and mojito. Our expectations about fresh seafood, pulpo, heirloom tomatoes, sweet melon, churros, chocolate and gelato will be hard to match when we travel elsewhere. 

About the views during our road travels. Awesome, magnificent, unbelievable, beyond imagining, soul-stirring, heart-warming are just a few words to help explain what we think and how we feel as the vistas change. Sometimes, the sights and sounds are so jaw-dropping  that I hold my breath and hope that time would stand still. 

We (and the Reynolds) love Costa Brava with its unmatched natural coastline beauty.  The golden sand beaches, blue clear waters, soft shoreline waves, calm swimmable coves, interesting tide pools, cool sea breeze, cloud-tufted skies, imaginative stone outcroppings, impressive cliffs, musical surf, verdant  trees, wild flowers, quaint towns and cafes, cute cottages, stately mansions, all conjure a perfect vacation spot.  Throw in a nearby scenic (Bishop’s mountain and the Pyrenees as a backdrop), organic vineyard with delicious wine crafted by a young entrepreneural family of musicians ( Ana and Luis Perez). What’s not to love?
All of these make Costa Brava our number one place in Spain to revisit.

A close second is lovely, attractive, easily- navigable San Sebastián that lives up to its reputation as a foodie’s dream city. There are endless interesting sites to visit in addition to the expansive Playa Concha. Add the fact that you can do a scenic drive up to Basque Country coast, Sant Jean de Luz and Biarritz or a scenic drive down to Bilbao(visit Guggenheim or cruise to the Canary Islands or Azores).

I like Madrid; central, historical, elegant, mature, rhythmic.  Art prefers Barcelona; culture-laden, active, entertaining, convenient, diverse.

Toledo, Segovia, Burgos, Caceres, Merida, Santander, Salamanca, Cadiz, Ronda, Jerez,  Girona were all more than worthwhile to visit with pleasant surprises when least expected. Throughout the weeks, we learned a lot about Spain’s geography, history, conquests, old world stature, culture, people, politics, economics, music, dance, food, and resources, along with the country’s successes, failures, aspirations, and accomplishments. 

Art and I now have a broader understanding of the chronology and historical background of our native homeland (Philippines) having been a colony of Spain for 400 years. We also realize how young our adopted country is (United States), by comparison. But, we, and the people in Spain and those from other countries that we have visited, have much more similarities than differences and aspire for the same peace, health, and prosperity for themselves and their country.
We love Spain and we thank you for giving us a safe, memorable, unforgettable vacation.

We will share our experience, photos and memorabilia with friends, family, and social media and encourage them to see Spain with your guidance and help. 

Meanwhile, I will start looking at our travel dates and plan our Portugal trip with you either in the fall of 2023 or spring of 2024.

We have been meaning to write to you since we returned from our time in Portugal and Spain, but as you might suspect, life, especially around this time of the year intervened. Anyway, we had a fabulous time and wanted to let you know that. The hotels we stayed at were great! The guides were knowledgeable and fun and extremely professional. The attractions were all interesting and beautiful. And the food and wine in both countries was fantastic!

I’ve had people ask me what were the highs and lows of the trip and I can’t answer that because I wouldn’t have wanted to miss anything we saw or did. I suppose if we were to return, we’d probably skip the bigger cities (Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona) but the walking tour of Lisbon with Pedro was a highlight, as was the Tapas Tour in Madrid with Amy, and we were blown away by all of the Gaudi things we saw in Barcelona.

Since we retired and moved to the country from Chicago — we found the smaller cities and towns were at a pace that we enjoyed a bit more. We also loved the train travel - so different from anything we have here and if we come back (or maybe when we come back) - I’d skip the short flights and opt for a train even if that meant we added a couple of hours to the trip.

I have referred several friends and family members to Totally Spain, so hopefully you’ll hear from some of them soon. Thank you and Ana so much for all of your help, it was most appreciated.

We spent one week in Portugal and two weeks in Spain and had the time of our lives! Totally Spain made the trip wonderful: The hotels we stayed at were great! We are so happy we booked with Totally Spain for our honeymoon!

We are from New York and found the company through Google and verified the business. Ken responded to us immediately and was responsive throughout the entire planning process and during the trip if we had any questions. He made the most perfect custom arrangements for us and our trip was flawless, we didn't worry about a thing. All the hotels were clean and in great locations. We are back home, safe and sound.  Where to begin... Thank you.  We cannot express, fully, how grateful we are to you for all that you did. Every detail was perfect. All the transporters were super.....timely, polite, professional and helpful. They all were flexible, and offered inside tips. We enjoyed them all.
The accommodations were all great. We loved the hotel Palacio de San Martin in Madrid. So lovely, well located and helpful staff. (one waitress, in particular, was so sweet and went out of her way to show us courtesy). 

The individual walking tour guides were all great....so knowledgeable, great teachers and storytellers. We enjoyed, so much, each place we visited. I think I was especially mesmerized by Salamanca.. It is so beautiful, and the history is palpable.  So very glad you included that.

Thank you, again and again. We had a lovely, relaxed and interesting journey.

We got back safely from our trip last night and just wanted to e-mail you to tell you that we had the most wonderful holiday. Everything was so well organised by you from start to finish and it all went very smoothly. Each city was so different and it would be hard to say which one we liked the best but probably a toss up between Seville and Cordoba. The hotels were all first-class, the drivers were all extremely punctual and friendly and the service we received could not have been better. We all thoroughly enjoyed the train journeys, especially our unexpected breakfast on the Cordoba- Granada train, which included prosecco and beer!

Thank you Belen. We will certainly be using your services again, possibly to Portugal next year. I shall be recommending Totally Spain to any of my friends who want a tailor-made trip.

Hello Belen, 

I know Ken wrote to you as well to tell you what a lovely time we had over the last several weeks. We all agreed that our trip would not have been possible without your guidance and expertise. The hotels, tours and tips were all excellent. Ken and I definitely fell in love with Spain, especially the island, and already booked a small villa in Mallorca next September! 

On a more personal note, I have enjoyed our correspondence and have found you to be a great pen pal. :) I am already thinking about another trip in 2024 or 2025 to Portugal and northern Spain.

Your assistance and good counsel will definitely be required. I wish you and Totally Spain much success in the meantime.

4th!! CUSTOM TOUR WITH TOTALLY SPAIN

Yet another fabulous tour with Totally Spain! Belen planned the perfect itinerary for Portugal and Spain with a great introduction for our first visit to Portugal, which we absolutely loved.

As always, the hotels choices were ideal with unique local character and amenities in the most central locations. Our tour guides were the best - we're art and history buffs and they each contributed so much to what we were seeing - and their genuine warmth made seeing the sights like visiting with friends. Drivers and transfers were always seamlessly executed. Timed ticket entries made queueing a breeze.

Each time we travel with Totally Spain we are impressed and never disappointed. There is no wasted time or hiccups and they are so good at designing itineraries for whatever we think we might want to do. Their suggestions are always welcome surprises that make the trip so memorable.

We'd never travel to Spain or Portugal without them.

We selected Totally Spain from an internet ad to plan and organize 10 days to visit Madrid and Barcelona for 2 couples. The good reviews that were posted proved accurate in due course.

Belen, the Managing Director, took charge and after a few iterations , changes, compromises , etc. we agreed on a final plan that included , hotels, intercity transportation , private guides , excursions to nearby towns by train including guides, food tours and taxi/ limo transportation from and to the airport and train stations.

The trip was fantastic. Well organized and well staffed with knowledgeable friendly tour guides and drivers. While in Spain your immediate response to our hotel change request was perfectly organized and supported by a driver / translator.

We really felt that the schedule and overall organization of the trip enabled us to maximize our enjoyment. Even the restaurant list you provided for each city proved to be very useful and well chosen.
